Extruded Polystyrene (XPS)
Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) is a rigid, closed-cell foam insulation board manufactured through a continuous extrusion process using polystyrene resin combined with a blowing agent. Unlike EPS, which is formed from fused, expanded beads, XPS features a uniform, closed-cell structure without bead boundaries — giving it greater compressive strength, lower thermal conductivity, and significantly lower water absorption compared to EPS.
Because of these properties, XPS is typically the preferred option for demanding applications such as inverted or protected roofing systems, podium decks, basement walls, cold storage flooring, and other load-bearing or moisture-prone insulation scenarios, where EPS/Thermocol serves as a more budget-friendly but less durable alternative.
