Loose Glass Wool
Loose Glass Wool is a lightweight, fiber-based insulation material created by melting glass—commonly using recycled cullet combined with silica sand—and drawing it into fine filaments, which are then processed into a loose, unbonded state. This loose form serves as a base material for producing asphalt-bonded glass blankets and boards, and is also used to retain heat in exterior building elements and along pipelines. Because of its soft, adaptable texture, it can be poured or blown straight into cavities, making it a practical choice for spaces where rigid boards or rolled insulation can’t easily reach.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Form | Loose, unbound fibrous strands |
| Fiber Dimensions | Fiber length approximately 50–150 mm, with a diameter of around 12 microns |
| Thermal Conductivity | Approximately 0.023–0.040 W/m·K |
| Packing | Supplied in compressed bulk bags for loose-fill application |
| Moisture Sensitivity | Must be kept dry, as moisture significantly increases thermal conductivity |
Applications
